Its easy to come to Angola and focus on everything that is going wrong. Its easy to criticize the government on its shortcomings. But why not tell a story of resilience. The story of the hawkers in the streets who choose that life as opposed to a life of crime. The story of the female veterans, who even though not recognized by the state, are not deterred. They sell in the “prasas” morning and noon to feed their families. How about the seven Angolan Mandela Washington Fellows in taking part in President Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative?

There are so many untold stories of the Angolan people. Maybe we need to focus more on those stories…
